Certification is the minimum standard you should require of any photographer worthy of your business. No photographer can guarantee that they will do a good job of fulfilling your photographic expectations. However if the photographer has strived to be certified we believe this to be the closest you will come to a guarantee.

Certification is not something easily acquired or else all photographers would be certified. Certified photographers will consistently deliver only the finest quality products. They are experienced, hard working businesspersons deeply committed to excellence in all aspects of photography with the highest ethical standards. Their professional skills are continually upgraded.

The letters or designations behind a photographer’s name signify quality. These designations indicate that photographers using them have achieved and maintain the highest performance standards in their profession and have reached the highest levels of professional achievement.

The Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the world’s leading certifying agency for imaging professionals and the world’s largest not for profit association for professional photographers, with more than 14,000 + members in 64 countries. The PPA is the world’s largest and most respected organization for professional image-makers. PPA certified professional photographers are tested and judged by top industry performance standards and are dedicated to a code of ethics and strict business practices.

The PPA issues a number of degrees. Cathy Jessica Latoski, the principal of Signature Images Professional Photography is the holder of three of these degrees. The first degree CPP or Certified Professional Photographer is issued to photographers who have demonstrated a mastery of photographic concepts and an ability to create excellent photographs by both a rigorous written exam and critical peer review of work done. The candidate must attend continuing education programs and maintain their creative and technical expertise. The Masters of Photography or M. Photog. and the Craftsman Degree or Cr. Photog. are the PPA’s prestigious degree programs. Their underlying objective, to consistently provide and encourage original, imaginative, creative photography and stimulates candidates to concentrate on their ongoing professional development. The Photographic Craftsman degree recognizes a photographer’s service to the profession, which includes but is not limited to teaching, lecturing and service to photographic associations. The most coveted and prestigious degree is the Master of Photography degree. The Master of Photography degree typically requires more than six years of sustained effort to earn, and demands proficiency in both the theory and application of principles of photographic principles. It is awarded for superior performance and achievement that has been demonstrated through photographic competition, advanced education and service to the profession. The Master of Photography degree is awarded only to photographers whose superior competence and technique have been recognized by impartial judges in exhibit competitions. As stated earlier certification does not come easy as illustrated by the fact that there are less than 600 photographers worldwide that hold all three of these degrees.
